The Exo Experience

Yesterday my sister and I were talking when she said to me "You know we never gave Exo a shot" and she was right when they debuted we tried listening to their song 'Mama' but turn the video off after the weird chanting at the beginning and cast the group into the 'do not watch' pile. We tried getting into Exo for a second time once, we watched a show they did and all I remember from it was Kris' expression and when said "Chicken is not my style" but ended up eating it later, we stopped after that episode and I decided I don't like Kris. Later I found out about adorable Xiumin and Dimples Lay, I have a thing for dimples so even if I don't listen to a group I'll still know the member in the group with dimples. Considering we knew all of the members' names already we decided to give it another go and so the journey began again.....

MAMA

We started off with Exo's debut song  'Mama' however we watched my favorite fangirl do a cover of it. (P.S check out her BTS fangirl versions) So in the beginning when they chant she says "Careless, carelss, shoot anonymous, anonymous. Heartless, mindless, no one cares about me" we laughed because 1. They (it's two of them) do tend to add their own lyrics and go crazy fangirl on us when singing 2.There's no way sm would use lyrics like that "Shoot anonymous?" WTF?! but then again there was a song by Suju that had "sexy free and single, I'm ready to bingo."

So after this, we checked out the real video. Exo-M's version (we're Exo-M biased.) We skipped the narration, maybe if we didn't we could have avoided any misconceptions that we would later have.

OMG we love Chen like we  LOVE him, this is the first time ever my sister and I have the same bias.  This video also changed how I felt about Kris. At the 3:27 mark she tells me they refer to Lay as a "Unicorn" so I asked her "Is it because he touched a picture of a unicorn?" and she said "I don't know" so I say "If that's the case why don't they call...." and so the nicknaming begins (some nicknames existed before this video).

Xiumin = Iceman or "me iceman"

Lay = unicorn, dimples

Chen = Leather jacket

Luhan = Tiny face or He who levitates balls

Tao = gay swordsman

Sehun = "I cause sandstorms" or eyebrows

Suho- mini eyebrows

**Any nickname with quotations must be said in the terminator's (Arnold's) voice. 

Then there's a dance sequence around 4:18 where Kai comes in and we started to complain

"Ugh, why is he here?"

"We watched M so we didn't have to watch him" 

"Why is he at the front?"

"Lay's a better dancer!"

"Hey look at Tao, cool spin."

This is what freaked us out in the mv; Xiumin and Kris.

"Wtf happened to his face."

"Why? What is on his face?"

"Why am I being yelled at?!"

"I'm scared."

Conclusion: Once you get passed the creepy weird ass chanting at the beginning of the song, it is okay. 

History

We made fun of beginning, I told her "I remember people were saying they looked like they were jerking off and so this is where the gif came from."

The following were some of the comments:

"Nothing against Kris but why would they put him at the front when he looks awkward doing that move."

"Haha, my pain be creeping."

"Those shiny pants on Chen, not even MC Hammer would want those back."

Then halfway through the video

"I almost forgot about Lay, where is he?"

     -"He's...Wait, where is he?"

     -"Never mind. I found him." 

"Luhan looks so out of place with those clothes." 

Conclusion: We like this song. 

Overdose

And from this video the nickname Luhan-a (Luhana) was born. 

Also Kai's nickname "Kai-ana" was also born. (refer to K version of mv).

It starts off with them in....wtf am I supposed to call that? It isn't exactly a pyramid. Rewind.....they start off in a formation and we can't help but to pause the video for a short laugh break. 

Highlights of this video...

"Luhana, what happened to your hair?!"

"Chen's fisherman's hat." 

"Lay's leopard print." My sister and I will forever equate leopard print to Infinite's Sunggyu (Why? He claims to love it but we think he looks horrible in it.)

"Suho looks better when you can't see his hair."

"Chanyeol's and Sehun's clothes...."smh

We spazzed over Xiumin doing this...

Kai ninjas to the front after Tao's part. "Why?"

                                                            - "Go back to the back."

Conclusion: We really like this song.

Wolf

At first we we we trying to figure out whether the human tree was supposed to be swaying or whether some of the Exo-M members had trouble staying still. Then arms come out at the base and I say to her "What the hell are we watching?" then she says "You're asking me? I'm still trying to figure that out."

Kai comes on and she says "Ew that's when he had cornrows, I hate that hairstyle on him" and I say "Is it weird that I kinda like it on him and those earrings but I still find him annoying." 

I have a special place in my heart for Chanyeol he looks like he was a mischievous kid. (Sorry, I did not include a Chanyeol pic)

Other comments: 

"Aren't they taking the wolf thing a little too seriously when they dance? I'm surprised the haven't lifted up their legs yet like they're peeing and say  "Naega Olf, Awuuuu"

Later on in the video our attention moves to Kai. "Ugh, why is he at the front again? and why does he get so much screen time?"

At 3:28-334, we were ROFL. 

She made fun of Tao's pink eye shadow.

Then there's Luhan-a (Luhana). 

Aw... Chen and I have matching shirts.

Baekhyun "Look mom, I'm like a character in Naruto."

Conclusion: Dislike. Nothing could save that song, not even if they were all shirtless...well, we might rewatch the video a few times on mute and play History in the background. But I think the choreography and History would clash. 

Growl

Before we pressed play my sister says to me "Is there a difference between Growl and Wolf? Do hey say naega growl, naega growl ahwuuuu"

The following are some comments/observations made during the video:

"Something bothers me about Sehun's pants, is it because it's too high or because he has no belt on?"

"That hat looks better on Sehun than D,O." Then Suho takes the hat from Sehun.

     -"That hat needs to be burnt it looks good on no one." 

        5 seconds later...."Where'd the hat go?"

        "I have powers, I made it disappear." 

"Why does Suho have to be special by having writing on his shirt?"

      -"I forgot there was a Suho in Exo, where was he in the other vids?"

      -"Let me just point out he was at the beginning of the video."

      - "No one care about him." (modified the line from mama)

"Bow-ties suit D.O I kinda see what that chick from Girl's Day sees in him besides his amazing voice."

Conclusion: Meh, I guess it's okay, it's better than Wolf.  

What is Love

My sister starts off with "Super Junior answered them with 'This is Love.'"

Then Chen starts sing "my baby, baby, baby..." and I respond "Yes baby."

Then the mv shows Sehun then Kai "Ugh why are they here again? They haven't showed Xiumin yet!"

We saw this....

"Whoa is that Kai?"

"I'm not sure, let's go back."

"It is him."

"It's Kai-ana. Ah, the wonders of less light and a different hairstyle."

"I want his jacket."

"I want his number so I can get in touch with his makeup artist.

"Wow even when they're driving I can still see Sehun's eyebrows." 

So you're probably wondering what my deal with Sehun's eyebrows. Well, how do I describe it, it's like his eyebrows are furrowed without him trying to furrow them. For example this pic

 and every other picture I've seen of him.

Then I saw this...

"Who's that guy?"

"Suho."

"Really? The heck's that?"

"Mini eyebrows."

"Oh yes, I forgot about him."

When the video was done...

"Uhm...did anyone besides Chen and Luhan have lines?"

"I can't tell their voices apart yet so idk."

Conclusion: Good song but probably wouldn't listen to it often. 

Then we proceeded to watch an episode of them on Weekly Idol and their showcase (The one Leeteuk hosted). 

When Lay and Kai were dancing together I said "I think Lay is a little too slow" - "Kai is dancing too fast. - "Seriously, I don't like him either but really? Kai is dancing too fast? Try harder for a better excuse."

I wake up today and she says to me "Do you want to continue watching that Exo show we started watching from before."

My thoughts "What did I get myself into?"

Overall Comments:

We're Chen and Exo M biased. I wouldn't call ourselves official fans, but we will be replaying history and overdose at my house and also look forward to any recent releases. I know we missed one video so if and when we do check it out I will write a post here.
